Hy!

Last month i buy a 10 years old "El".

Rust was "cut" few cables..I repair everything. (Speed kit cable was totally wasted)
.....
After that i put a new mikroshalter for back light - everiyhing ok!... BUT!...
After a few minutes a lot of smoke from Tachosensor - it burned with lot of bad smell and smoke!! It don`t worked anyway... i don`t see any connection between this both... :confused: Did you see any?
May be just coincidence???
I want to know - did i can drive without Tachosensor for few weeks ?
What happen when car reach 45 km/h without Tachosensor - i mean it only measure speed or have some other functions? (Battery are AGM CTM CTL - 100 AH. HF charger.)

Other problem that worry me, are many death LEDs on drive panel .. Can i repair that ? How? May be it is imposible for me i am not so "big" :) in this area...

(Now we have 2 "El", 10 and 20 years old - i think that to have older "El" is better.) :)

Only one specify - Sofia is in Bulgaria.

You can help if you write to English or to German language. If you write in German please describe things just with few words - it will be easy to me to understand. :)
In the future i think to change batteryes with lifepo4 - i still search for cheap BMS+balanser for 11 pieces Thunder sky/Winston .
For the moment batteryes are new to Denmark El,.. German "EL" - 1 year old batts - still have much power.

LEDs are easy.
If problem is driver chip what i must to do? Just change the chip? May be this chip after change i must program it?Or not?
In the moment voltmeter have only 3 working LEDs on the right side - may be problem is in the driverchip :(

What i must write in elwiki for ""display panel"" and for ""LEDs"". I was serach but nothing... Did there is described how to change driverchip?

Hallo

Wäre erst mal wichtig welches Display er hat im alten sind die Treiber UAA 180 und im neuen sind 4 fach Optokoppler verbaut. Problem ist daß der UAA 180 nicht mehr gefertigt wird.

New one is not ok!

Look at the instrument if the tacho only has 60 km/h max ists the old one the newer one goes up to 70 km/h

In the old one the driver ist the UAA 180 in the new one there is a micro Controller

The problem is that the UAA180 is no longer supported so its difficult or expensive to get one.

But first try if the LEDS have a Problem often there are a defect Led or some bad solderpads

It is 70 km/h what i see.

By the way i know that AGM akumulators must be charged between 14,4 and 15 volts. When i measure with multimeter it say 16 Volts in the end of cherge . Something wrong?
It is new HF charger. Charge it for 2 hours.

Hallo

There are two types of HF Chargers the older one wörks fine, the newer one kills the batteries.

You cant measure the Voltage with an normal instrument the Charger works with pulses to equalize the batteries. and the voltage could be higher is its cold.

The older charger has some bridges on the circuit where you can set the batterie type,

The main problem is the degreasing Quality of the lead acid batteries in the last years.

You can check the batteries and the charger if you put some tape on the overpressure outlets on the batteries if you see a bubble under the tape after charging the batterie is generating gas. that could have two reasons the voltage of the charger ist to high or a cell is already damaged.

I will charge batteries separately with car charger .
By the way there was a 2 "Power cheq " one of them burned immediately at a furst charge!!! :hot:....i throw away both..
By my opinion this is wrong waste 200 euro ever - this is one dangerous part!

How "micro Controller" look like and where i can find it?

Here is -1`C may be 16V is normal.
I look for "overpressure outlets " but can`t find it... it is CTM 100 AH/ 12V

Hello

The microcontroller is on the Instrument circuit, if you remove the Instrument and dismount the front panel of the instrument you can look on the circuit and identify the parts.

If you have the instrument with a range of 70 km/ on the tacho the drivers will be 4 port opto isolated couplers. The micro controller is the biggest IC on the board.

The best way to repair the part is to find someone who knows how to test circuits.

Its possible to test the display on the table you feed the 12V, the ground and the impulses for the tacho in the case the LEDs are connected as a matrix you need professionell equipment for testing.

The older instrument with the UAA 180 is much easier for testing.

On the batteries are over pressure valves the look different on each type of batterie, sometimes like little pin holes somtimes like valves.

The best for long life are really sealed batteries that have no valves or only one way protection against over pressure.

I dont have the batterie type you use to look at maybe somone other can discribe how the valves are looking.

You need a special charger for this batteries it must be usable for AGM batteries, the voltage is lower as on normal car batteries.

Hy!

I check periodically charging - first battery is ready i stop it when reach 14,60 V.
Tomorrow i will do everything that you all advise me.

Today i put Curtis and all "guts" inside of the EL, also clean all El, repair hand break, and clean Titan -Thrige inside with spirits in brush area - much work.
After all i make a few drift on the snow at 180 degrees, no this was yesterday .. however big fun!!!. :D

I still don`t have patience to test speed kit...

I chek today digital display - many death LEDs , but this one what work also don`t shine.. Only 2-3 LEDs work to voltmeter.

Very bad...

Мicro controller may be is the problem.
If problem is really this - what can i do ? Just change it or...? Did new controller need programing?
