3.2.11 Vehicle speed measurement
Using the SPEED IN input mapped with the corresponding special ”PF1 Speed Sensor Input”
pin function, the Control Unit can register the pulses of the vehicle’s speed signal as well as
the duration between them. This data is sampled at a rate of 100Hz (in sync with the current
measurement), and each time the ratio between the pulse count and the total duration between
them is divided by the value of ”Pulses per Distance Unit” parameter in order to determine the
momentary vehicle speed. This value is not essential to the core functions of the BMS, however
it is used for keeping track of the total driven distance and distance since charge, calculating
the energy consumption per distance unit, and estimating the remaining distance. All of these
values can be read from the Control Unit through one of its digital interfaces and monitored
in real time on Emus BMS Display Unit or a third party display, which eliminates the need
for a separate electronics for these functions and allows to simplify the electrical system of the
vehicle.
