I have started to convert my Buddy to 3 phase AC motor from https://www.kit-elec-shop.com/gb/ki...5kw-sevcon-gen4-8055-size-6-sin-cos-pack.html

An expensive conversion for a simple car/4 wheel MC, especially compared to used "ordinary" el.vehicles, but I have my reasons...

The splines itself seems very dry but there have been some lubrication there...

So far, I have removed the old motor and the first question appears: What kind of lubrication is the best to use on the splines between motor and gearbox/diff?

I'd use common gearbox/cogwheel grease like the one used in CVT joints.
For the gearbox use standard gear oil like 80W-90 or similar.

It looks like black/grey MOS grease but all of it outside the spline, none left where it should be.

I was thinking about MC chain spray since that is drying and gets quite sticky or maybe even Copaslip. I know Copaslip ain't made for this use but there should be no or very little grinding movements in the spline and a bit of copper may reduce steel to steel contact.

Is that a Buddy? I’ve never seen a Buddy drive before; please post more photos. Thanks.

New motor in place:

Homemade bracket:

Powder coating on the rear suspension have done it's job (some time ago) and for now, I'll just remove all powdercoating that is loose and apply raw linseed oil. That will calm the rust down quite well... A better job with rust have to be at a later stage...

So the transmission was apparently modified to allow the engine to be removed without dismantling the transmission?

Up to the Kewet 5, the transmission must be disassembled in order to remove the motor.

Only 3 bolts fixing the engine to the transmission, 2 on top and one on bottom, all easily accessible.

Raw linseed oil have so small molecule size that it creeps behind the rust and blocks for water and oxygen. Takes a few weeks to dry but it is a fast and easy way to protect rusted steel.

I used Copaslip/copper anti seize grease on the splines. Time will tell if that was a wise decision...

Seems to be so. Obviously its much easier to remove the motor than in our older Thrige equipped cars.
Heres a video from two guys with a QS8000 motor in a buddy which apparently was not this hard to install.

Temporary placement of Sevcon controller:

The heatsink is about 12mm wider than the controller on all sides so I'm going to mount the controller and heatsink with thermal compound and 4 bolts first, cut a hole in bottom of the cabinet and install it from below.

The rest of the components will fit somewhere in the end... The 3 orange motor cables dictate the controller position within 10 mm or so.

Does the controller really have to go inside the box? I would mount it to the right of the motor. It would still be well protected but would have better cooling. The connector is well sealed.

That’s the motor from the 4 and 5 series; the shaft goes into the gearbox, so the unit has to be disassembled to access the motor.

Since the control signals for the Curtis controller is 72V and the Sevcon is 0V, I'll start by using only the car's throttle pot.meter and have separate switches for "Key" and "Fwd/Rev" to avoid a lot of research of the car electrics just now.

19 Foot SW is for the microswitch on the throttle pedal, temporary not used.
32 Drive sel 2 is engine braking/regeneration, temporary not used.
